Why The Konjac Sponge?

How we chose the Konjac sponge...

Before embarking in the wonderful world of veganism, we were big fans of natural sponges. When we started Pure Epiphany, one of our favourite ideas was a sponge attached to our beautiful soaps for an extra-special lather!

Since the natural sea sponge is classed as an animal, we couldn't use that, but the thought of a synthetic sponge didn't seem right when we had worked so hard to keep our products natural.

After hours of research, deciding the loofah was too hard on the skin against our gentle products, we stumbled upon the Konjac sponge!

We instantly loved it and have never looked back!
A few little facts...

1. Originally used for cleaning babies, the Konjac sponge is super soft when wet, but rock hard when dry.

2. The Konjac sponge is made from the fibres of the asian Konjac potato.

3. It is the perfect natural, vegan, organic alternative to a natural sponge.

4. The konjac sponge will make you look a little more radiant. With it's exfoliating properties, your skin will look that bit better than it did before, especially with our silky smooth soap attached!

5. It's also a great make-up remover! it will work much better than using your hands and it will be kind to your skin atthe same time.
The Result...

We love our unique Konjac soap sponges, and so do our customers. Here's a few of the comments we have had:

  • "The soap really lathers up when you use the sponge!"
  • "It's much better than a synthetic sponge and I've noticed my skin is really soft, it might be the soap, might be the sponge, but I think it's a mixture of the two"
  • "A really unusual alternative, but it works great"

Soak in warm water to soften. When soft, the soap will lather through!

The Konjac is a potato-like plant (pictured left). Typically found in Japan, it requires high altitudes to grow.
